Anuncian “Semana Pro Bono” en Denver

DENVER - Con motivo del 11º aniversario del Programa de Reconocimiento al Compromiso por Servicios Legales Pro Bono de la Suprema de Colorado, la Presidenta del Tribunal Supremo Nancy E. Rice ha proclamado la semana del 22 al 28 de octubre de 2017, como la Semana Pro Bono.

Colorado tiene la suerte de tener un alto número de abogados que ofrecen sus servicios legales a residentes de bajos ingresos a manera de donativo, pero no pueden satisfacer las necesidades legales civiles de las más de 500,000 personas en Colorado que viven por en la pobreza.

"El acceso a los tribunales para resolver disputas civiles es un derecho fundamental e imprescindible en nuestra sociedad", dijo Rice. "La ayuda de abogados pro bono es una parte invaluable de proporcionar acceso a la justicia a toda la comunidad".

El programa alienta a todos los abogados de Colorado a proporcionar al menos 50 horas de servicios legales sin costo alguno, principalmente a personas indigentes y / u organizaciones que atienden a personas sin techo.

En el 2007, la Corte Suprema de Colorado comenzó a reconocer a las firmas de abogados y a los juristas que alcanzan el objetivo de ofrecer 50 horas de servicios legales gratis.

Para que una firma de abogados logre el objetivo, cada abogado dentro de la empresa debe completar un promedio de 50 horas de servicio pro bono anualmente.

En el año calendario 2016, 226 empresas y profesionales solitarios se comprometieron a alcanzar el objetivo de las 50 horas; 145 cumplieron el objetivo.
